After my son came out it occurred to me that saying a million times that I accepted him wasn’t nearly enough. I needed to demonstrate not only by my words but by my actions my unconditional love for him. I realized that I needed to do more than say I supported him; I needed to fight for him. That’s when I committed myself to changing our laws and societal attitudes to make sure that my first-class son wasn’t treated as a second-class citizen. Will you join me in my fight? The power of PFLAG is in the voice of the parent. There is no more compelling voice than yours. The call of a parent advocating for equality and protection for their children will move hearts and minds in a way that no other call can. Therefore, we make a special request to parents to join us on this important day.
Join Equality Maryland and the Maryland Coalition for Transgender Equality (MCTE) for a rally to ensure that transgender Marylanders are treated equally under the law.
The rally will take place on Lawyer’s Mall, just outside the legislative buildings and the State House. There will be special guest speakers, and you will be given the opportunity meet with your local legislators to offer support for SB449, The Fairness for All Families Act. This bill, when signed into law, will prevent discrimination against our transgender neighbors and loved ones with regard to housing, employment, credit, and public accommodations. Transgender Marylanders currently do not have these protections and need this legislation to help them live their lives free from discrimination.
Our partners at Equality Maryland and MCTE will provide talking points and all of the information you need to lobby effectively for trans equality.
