Has someone in your family come out as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender?
People come to us at all stages of their journey toward acceptance of their sexual minority or gender-nonconforming child, family member or friend. We have resources to help you find your bearings as you grapple with this new reality, including an online library, general meetings where you can come to meet others and learn more, and a youth group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender young people and their friends and allies.
If we have little understanding or experience with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, we often fear for our family member’s safety and happiness. We worry about their “decision,” and often hope that it is just a stage. Through PFLAG you can gain the knowledge you need and meet the members of this vibrant community and assuage your fears.
If your child has just come out, we recommend visiting the Family Acceptance Project website for information on the importance of family acceptance.
